About Medium Blue/Grey Vase (Pod Series)

This modern glass blue and grey vase by Julia Reimer is inspired by nature.

The original designs of Julia Reimer’s award-winning glass work have long been influenced by nature—the light that plays across the windswept grasslands of her Alberta home. In recent years, she has had the opportunity to be a resident artist at the University of Australia. There she explored how landscape, the natural environment and culture affect artists' craft. This research gave her a new perspective on the role of nature in her own ethereal glass work…in form and colour. The Pod series is a continuation of this exploration. Its elegant shape is reminiscent of a seed pod found in nature—the housing for new plant life.
This blown glass medium-sized vase is a blue/grey colour.

Julia Reimer first studied glass blowing at the Albert College of Art and Design. Reimer has since exhibited across Canada and internationally in Australia, South Korea, Scotland and the US. For her elegant sensibility, Reimer received the inaugural National Award for Glass from the RBC and Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in 2008. She has received grants and scholarships from the Canada Council and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and was an artist in residence at the University of South Australia, Northlands in Scotland and in New York at the Corning Museum of Glass -- to name just two. Julia Reimer is the co-owner of ‘Firebrand,’ a glass studio in the foothills of Alberta.
