This contemporary abstract mixed media composition consists of predominantly blue geometric shapes.

Lucy Maki’s masterful paintings have evolved over decades to embrace a variety of techniques and mediums. Her exploration of shaped paintings, like this one, are experiments in how space, form and colour can be transformed when a painted canvas is stretched over shaped wood panels, extending the picture frame. Blue Notes is composed of oil paint on aluminum, wood and canvas. Geometric shapes—derivatives of squares appear in layers—in an arresting mix of blues, black framed in white and aluminum. Thoroughly modern.

Lucy Maki received her MA and MFA from the University of New Mexico, finishing in 1982. Maki’s artwork has been exhibited internationally--in the US, Mexico and Canada. It can be found in collections at the Albuquerque Museum and the Museum of New Mexico.
