About Genesis
This intriguing abstract mixed media composition is by Lucy Maki. Two panels in white, black, pale yellow and a deep blue sit one above the other—each panel features a globe-like form, and geometric shapes framed in white. Maki’s pieces are a melange of curated colours in architectural, geometric and natural forms. Her unique vision is rooted in traditional painting. Over more than 20 years, the New Mexico-based artist has been influenced by many genres including cubism, surrealism, minimalism—even the transcendental painters of the 1930’s and 40’s.‘Genesis’ is the first book of the Bible which documents the history of the world and begins with the famous sentence—‘In the beginning.’“The most important role of art is to provide access to a realm of knowing beyond ordinary consciousness.” Lucy Maki
She received her MA and MFA from the University of New Mexico, finishing in 1982. Maki’s artwork has been exhibited in the US, Mexico and Canada. It can be found in collections at the Albuquerque Museum and the Museum of New Mexico.
