About Dock 8 (Red Lozenge)

BC artist Pat Service spent almost a dozen summers at Professional Artist’s Workshops in Emma Lake Saskatchewan. A series of paintings were inspired by those memories, including several focused on the iconic form of a rowboat moored alongside a dock. In this abstracted piece the view is from above--the lake water is a soft green, the boat, and its reflection, a sunny yellow, each contrasting with the burgundy-coloured interior of the boat and the dramatic black dock. Service is exploring inspired colour choices and minimalist form. It’s one artwork in a series that can be perfectly paired alongside 'Gold', which is another featured painting of this style.

“The simple layout and near-abstraction allows me to set up unusual colour juxtapositions. Using glazes and layering the paint over and over again, I seek an intense colour experience.” Pat Service

She acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
