About E.C. Trees

In striking minimalist form, in yellow, blue and orange, Pat Service, one of Canada’s finest landscape painters was inspired to re-imagine the work of the renowned B.C. artist Emily Carr. Like Carr, Service often painted in the forests of British Columbia imbuing trees with ‘personality.’ This piece portrays a small stand of trees—their trunks and leaves pared down to essential shapes in colours that pop against a neutral background. ‘E. C.’ stands for Emily Carr.

“One day I was looking at one of her paintings in the forest and thought about how she had placed the trees. I took the liberty of simplifying them and playing with the shapes in my own painting.” Pat Service

Pat Service acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Pat Service is represented exclusively by the Oeno Gallery.
