About Easy Curves

This minimalist acrylic abstract painting is a landscape by Pat Service.

Known best as one of Canada’s finest landscape painters, Pat Service has had the courage to experiment with a variety of genres during her impressive decades-long career. Intrigued by the possibilities of simple form and pure colour to define a place she has often explored minimalism. When a landscape is expressed in pared down form—such as Easy Curves, the viewer’s eye is focused on the dynamic geometry of the landscape. Colour—a fresh modern palette of white, yellow, sky blue and melon defines the geometric shapes that pop from the dark green backdrop.

“Shapes and shades of the roads and hills, stripped of detail, honour the pure focus of a painter. Colour, line, texture and composition are the players; the playground is the canvas.” Pat Service

“Like Cezanne, she is able to describe an object with one simple brush stroke and her strokes are some of the most intriguing: soft but rough, energetic yet still.” Anya Georgijevic, artist and curator

Pat Service acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Pat Service is represented exclusively by the Oeno Gallery.
