This joyful, colourful painting is by one of Canada’s finest landscape artists, Pat Service.
Here, the avid gardener uses bold colours-eye-popping red, yellow and white against a bright green backdrop and minimalist form to render an Andy Warhol-like floral. Service has painted florals throughout her career but these paintings signal a departure from realism towards a fresh, thoroughly contemporary approach. So pretty. One of a series.
“The flowers with their radiance and intensity initiate the act of putting paint on canvas but they don’t control the result. The result has more to do with the curious act of ‘painting’, playing with hue, surface texture and mark making.” -Pat Service
She acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
