This contemporary figurative painting of a swimmer is by Pat Service.

In her decades-long and storied career, Canada’s Pat Service has explored a variety of genres, moving from traditional landscapes to a more minimalist aesthetic. This is one of several paintings she created of swimmers. The palette is bright, fresh and contemporary. The form is simple. The perspective—a young blond-haired girl in a dark green bathing suit viewed from the back. A vivid sky blue towel hangs around her shoulders. The soft green backdrop says ‘summer’ and offers a gentle contrast.

“I think I noticed her when we were on the beach in Hawaii. I liked the way the towel was tossed around her neck as she walked down the beach, strolling very comfortably.” Pat Service

Pat Service acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
