Every morning for 15 minutes, Pat Service finds peace in playing the piano—classical music she learned as a teenager. This lyrical composition was inspired by such a moment rendered in a colourful mix of blue-greens punctuated by white. Service is known for her expressive and colourful work that has become more abstracted over the years. One in a series of two.
“One day while I was playing, I noticed reflections on the black surface of the piano that holds the sheet music. Coming through the window just behind me, this reflection of a tree and its branches was very commanding.” Pat Service
She acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
