About Playback
This contemporary minimalist painting is by Pat Service.A highly prized and collected landscape artist, Pat Service has long been inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds her home in British Columbia. Over the decades she has reimagined the landscape moving through various styles from high realism to minimalism. This is one of a series of ‘tree’ portraits she painted in the minimalist genre where the pared down form allows her the luxury of focusing on pure colour and shape. The palette here is a striking yellow, red and black against a soft gray-green backdrop.
“Colour, line, texture and composition are the players; the playground is the canvas.” Pat Service
“It is in the very strength of the artist’s abstraction that her paintings reverberate in the present moment, where, ultimately, we would all like to be.”
Neil Wedman, artist
