In this minimalist painting by Pat Service a lone tree – a sentinel – stands mid canvas in subtle hues of green, mauve, and soft gray. The colour choices and the simple form of the trunk and foliage is a deliberate effort to create a quiet, more reflective piece to represent a singular tree that stands on a roadside.
“Colour, line, texture and composition are the players; the playground is the canvas.”
She acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
