This striking abstract painting by Vancouver artist Pat Service was inspired by a watercolour of a lake in summer. Bright turquoise waters, a band of trees in soft green, a cabin in blue, green and yellow boats on the shore and a raft in bright orange rendered in simple shapes creates the scenario. By layering the paint over and over again and using glazes the colour is intensified. This is one in a series.
“Colour, line, texture and composition are the players; the playground is the canvas.” Pat Service
She acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
