About Brighton

Peter Hoffer’s landscapes are ethereal, exquisite and masterful. The Canadian artist’s work has often been compared to the paintings rendered by the famed British artist, John Constable. This horizontal view of a pastoral countryside setting has his signature colour palette—a soft blue and rosy, pink sky is highlighted with teal. In the foreground several trees in a rich green dot the fields. A thick layer of resin provides the finish and evokes nostalgia for classical, romantic forms and periods.

"I love landscape painting and one of the reasons I continue to do landscape painting is that these paintings are nowhere specific. I wanted to do the landscape in a manner in which it is personified. Where the tree becomes the individual, even playing on some clichés." Peter Hoffer

He holds an MFA. from Concordia University and degrees from the University of Guelph and OCAD University. Hoffer has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Paris, Montreal and Berlin. He has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. His paintings are held in many private, corporate and public collections.
