About Equilibre Oblique 1/10

As a young artist, Philippe Pallafray was inspired by sculpture masters and years later his dynamic contemporary sculptures are collected in both Canada and the United States. The Quebec artist has created a series of sculptures called Equilibre (French for ‘balance’) that challenge the viewer’s perception. A stainless steel ball sits between two rust-coloured steel cubes--one cube provides the base, and the other sits precariously balanced on top of the ball. The highly polished finish of the stainless steel ball acts as a mirror reflecting the images of the surrounding landscape. Edition one of ten.

“My geometrically shaped sculptures, whose angles and planes resemble Japanese origami, oppose the strength of metal with the fragility of paper.” Philippe Pallafray

Phillipe Pallafray is a member of the Sculptors Society of Canada and of the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec. Born in France, he emigrated to Canada ten years ago and currently lives in Ile d’Orléans, Québec. He uses steel and stainless steel that he cuts, shapes, folds, and welds. Pallafray's sculptures have been exhibited in Canada and the United States both as part of group and solo exhibitions. They are also part of public and private collections in Canada, France and the United States.
