About Friesian 3/12

The majesty and power of a horse as it rears up is captured in this dynamic bronze statuette by Canadian sculptor, Richard Tosczak. His work begins with a quickly sketched pen and ink single drawing of each piece which is then formed in clay and finally cast in bronze. This expressive sculpture is highly textured and finished in an elegant green patina. Number three in a series of twelve.

“The horses came as a result of drawings I made in Holland when my son was trialing with a couple of football clubs. Every day we would pass by these beautiful Friesian horses, so I started taking pictures and drawing them as soon as we got home to where we were staying.” Richard Tosczak

Born in Belgium, Richard Tosczak studied philosophy and sculpture at the University of Alberta. At that time, Tosczak began working in steel and was influenced by a number of his professors who appreciated the work of a British abstract sculptor, Sir Anthony Caro considered one of the greatest sculptors of his generation. Further studies were pursued in France with another internationally acclaimed classic sculptor, Martine Vaugel. Tosczak has exhibited in Canada, Brazil and in Europe. His work is held in private, public and corporate collections in Canada.
