About TP No 2
Canadian ceramicist Steven Heinemann is widely recognized for having re-defined the limits of ceramic art. With this piece, he has departed from his love of vessels to create a series of distinctive plates. In colours ranging from midnight blue to sky blue, the plate’s pattern is reminiscent of a view of the world from above. The heavy craquelure, a signature of Heinemann’s craftsmanship gives the piece a historic patina.“Craft is about honouring the physical circumstances we find ourselves in--these bodies, this amazing world, this earth…” Steven Heinemann
Steven Heinemann earned an MFA from Alfred University, NY, in 1983 and has taught in Canada and the US. Heinemann has exhibited continuously since his first solo exhibition at the Ontario Crafts Council in 1982. His work is held in museums the world over. Heinemann has received many national and international awards including the Saidye Bronfman Award, Canada’s highest recognition of achievement in contemporary craft.
