Dance in the Sculpture Garden - August 20th, 2017
On Sunday, August 20th, from 5:30-6:30pm, a unique live dance will take place in the sculpture garden. A group of dancers will perform an interpretative dance among the myriad sculptures in the garden behind Oeno Gallery.
A Dance in the Garden: Elemental is a unique dance/music installation in the beautiful Oeno Gallery’s Sculpture Garden at Huff Estates. Animating the artwork on display, features, plantings, meadows and sky, the event will enliven the balance of freedom and formality at play in the Garden’s special symbiosis of art and nature. The choreography is interpreted and performed by accomplished professional dancers, with County community dancers, and live musical accompaniment by multi-instrumentalist Kirk Elliott. A Dance in the Garden: Elemental will invite viewers to move through the Sculpture Garden in the long light of a late summer afternoon. Entry to the Sculpture Garden and the dance event is free.
A Dance in the Garden: Elemental is directed by dance artist/author Carol Anderson, a County summer resident since 1995. Anderson’s background includes choreographing and teaching in many professional, educational and community settings, and she has created dance for the concert stage, theatre, screen, and non-traditional spaces including the Music Garden at Toronto’s Harbourfront. She is joined, for A Dance in the Garden: Elemental, by burnished and burgeoning dance artists Claudia Moore, Terrill Maguire, Michelle Silagy, Arwyn Carpenter and Cristina González, with live music performed by multi-instrumentalist and composer Kirk Elliott.
Baxter Arts Centre offers partnership support for the event, and we acknowledge support from the Ontario Arts Council.
This event is free and open to the public.
