Pat Service Talk News Item 01

Oeno Gallery is pleased to present an upcoming artist talk with Pat Service, presented as part of the gallery’s current exhibition Breathe.

Based in British Columbia and rarely in Prince Edward County, this special event provides a unique opportunity to hear directly from one of Canada’s most accomplished landscape painters. Over the course of a decades-long career, Service has developed a distinctive visual language defined by expressive colour, sensitivity to light, and a profound connection to the natural world.

During the talk, Service will reflect on the evolution of her practice, from her early, more traditional landscape paintings to the increasingly abstract and liberated approach that defines her work today. A highlight of the discussion will be her Still Lake series, currently on view in Breathe. Created during her time at the renowned Emma Lake Professional Artist Workshops in Saskatchewan, these abstracted landscape paintings mark a pivotal moment in her artistic journey. Influenced by the community of abstract painters she encountered there and the landscape around her, the series reflects her growing interest in colour relationships, and the emotional resonance of place.

Born in the coastal town of Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, Service’s early life fostered a lasting connection to nature that continues to inform her work. Her paintings evoke the shifting light of sky and water while embracing a freedom that moves beyond direct representation. She has exhibited widely throughout Canada and internationally, and her work is held in numerous private, corporate, and museum collections.

This artist talk offers an intimate look into Service’s creative journey, an exploration of process, transformation, and the enduring influence of nature on her work. All are welcome to attend.
