About Typewriter and Wastebasket

An old-fashioned typewriter sits on its worn green case against ripped and stained wallpaper; a blue mug lays beside it—the coffee spilled across the black and white tile floor. The only pop of colour is the red typewriter ribbon and the wastebasket filled with crumpled papers. Using a trompe l’oeil technique to great effect, Dmitry Yuzefovich remembers details—images, colours and textures from his life in the Ukraine. He renders nostalgic and realistic paintings that recall a rich and somewhat mysterious past.

“I continue to use my realistic style because I believe in the details. Details are God. Details talk to people. My realistic style is my language.” Dmitry Yuzefovich

Born in Ukraine, Yuzefovich obtained a BFA from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israel in 2000 and an MFA in 2005. He moved to Canada with his family in 2015 and lives in Nova Scotia. Yuzefovich has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions. His paintings have been collected in Israel, Canada, the US, England and Europe.
