Biography

Ottawa-based artist Heidi Conrod draws inspiration from a wide-range of sources, spanning from science, literature, nature and philosophy, to Abstract Expressionism and Surrealism. Conrod's work joins together painting and drawing, abstraction and representation, in intuitive and improvisational ways. Through the act of layering, forms and shapes are multiplied by superimposing, and the space of the canvas expanded. Her works develop over an extended period of time, and define themselves through the process of emergence. Her work explores the nature of direct visual experience, one that involves infinite movement and thought.

Heidi Conrod was born in 1970 in Montreal and currently lives and works in Ottawa. She has had solo exhibitions at Katherine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects (Toronto), Studio 21(Halifax), Trunk Gallery (Vancouver), Wall Space Gallery (Ottawa), Karsh-Masson Gallery (Ottawa), Ottawa Art Gallery Annex (Ottawa). Her work has also been exhibited in various group exhibitions including Herringer-Kiss Gallery (Calgary), The Ottawa School of Art (Ottawa), Art Ventures (Palo Alto, California). She received her MFA at the University of Ottawa in 2016, and BSc (Biology) in 1994. Her work can be found in numerous private and public collections Canada and worldwide.
