About White with Pink and Indigo
Elegant and evocative, Jennifer Hornyak’s beautiful floral paintings are inspired by German Expressionism and early 20th century Flauvist masters such as Matisse. This single pink blossom sits in a vase against a deep indigo blue background. Hornyak’s work blurs the line between figuration and abstraction. The Montreal based artist achieves such rich textures by applying layer upon layer of glaze.“I don’t want to do flowers--flowers. As I always say, God does those!” Jennifer Hornyak
She studied at the Grimsby School of Art in England. In 1961, she moved to Montreal where she attended McGill University, the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal and the Centre Saidye Bronfman. Hornyak has exhibited throughout North America and Europe including the Paris World Exhibition in 1987 where her work was shown alongside that of Modigliani, Picasso and van Dongen. Hornyak’s work is represented in many private and corporate collections.
