Biography

Ikkidluak has been carving sculptures since 1967. He is a master carver and a key player in the Inuit art world, particularly in regards to forming his recognizable muskox figure for which he is well known. His muskoxen sculptures are unique to his signature style, typically involving delicate ivory horns and expertly carved coats of hair that drape down the animal. It has taken Ikkidluak most of his life to perfect these muskoxen figures in such superb form. His sculptures are in high demand and are sought after across the world. Ikkidluak’s brothers Joannie and Iola, as well as his sister Oloota are also artists.

Muskoxen sculptures by Ikkidluak have been featured in numerous international and national exhibitions, have won many awards and prizes, and have been acquired by numerous high-end collectors. His sculptures are on permanent display in the following institutions:  Canadian Guild of Crafts Quebec, Montreal, Quebec; Inuit Cultural Insitute, Rankin Inlet, Northwest Territories; Musee des beaux-arts de Montreal, Montreal, Quebec; University of Lethbridge Art Gallery, Lethbridge, Alberta; Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
