About See the World

This evocative contemporary outdoor sculpture was hand forged by Marie-Ève Fréchette. The Quebec sculptor is known for her bold choices of form and colour often inspired by her early career in science. This large oval aluminum sculpture is painted in a fresh lime green and designed to mimic the form of a human eye complete with eyelashes. The viewer is compelled to ‘see the world’ through the open space in the center of the ‘eye.’

“When I'm in the workshop, I try to find myself in front of something strange that confronts me. Sometimes by the human scale of the objects, something that makes me smile.” Marie-Ève Fréchette

Marie-Ève Fréchette acquired both a Bachelor of Arts and a master’s degree in visual arts at Laval University in Quebec. She studied ceramics in College and has another degree in Pharmacy. Before becoming a full time artist she worked as a pharmacist for ten years. Her work is found in public collections in Quebec and France. She has been an assistant sculptor to the renowned Quebec artist, Jean-Pierre Morin since 2013.
