About A Case for Cushions
This delightful, colourful painting of a floral still life illustrates Pat Service’s superb use of colour, pattern, texture and form. In the 1990’s, the Canadian artist highly regarded for her realistic landscapes explored the timeless tradition of painting a still life in her own unique way. Honouring the classic style, Service arranged a cloth-draped table with a vase of flowers, fruits, and two sumptuous cushions. The colour palette, however, is contemporary—a turquoise backdrop, pinks, lemon yellow, orange, burgundy, indigo blue and pops of white.“I just wanted to do a very good painting in a more traditional manner. I was trying to get the colour complicated and the surface of the canvas activated.” Pat Service
Pat Service acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Pat Service is represented exclusively by the Oeno Gallery.
