Biography

In German, it’s called ‘Augenblick’—capturing a moment in time. This is Stefan Duerst’s goal in creating his elegant sculptural work—to envision energy in motion. His ethereal sculptures are inspired by the natural motion found in water, wind, earth and fire—the four elements used to create the clean lines of his abstract pieces.

Born and raised in Munich, Germany Duerst apprenticed as a blacksmith and worked in metal design and fabrication. He completed his Masters in Metalwork with distinction. But it was his work under a Master Blacksmith that fired his own imagination and convinced him to pursue artwork forged from steel. From his studio in the Ontario countryside, Stefan Duerst now creates sculptures that can be found in both private and public collections in North America.
